Moffakerul Islam, an advocate at the Calcutta High Court, Previously practiced at the Raiganj Court in Malda, West Bengal. His father’s name is Mostak Hossain, and his mother’s name is Fatema Bibi. His Father previously attached to a high madrasha as a asistant teacher, Now retired.
Moffakerul Islam is an active member of AIMIM, avide follower of Asaduddin Owasi. He also contested in the 2021 election on behalf of AIMIM from his home constituency, Itahar, Malda, West Bengal. Lost by a major margin. Despite receiving few votes, his popularity in the political arena continued to grow.
Before the gaslighting of the heinous incident in Malda, Mofakkerul Islam had been seen in various protest rallies besides politics. Starting from the ugly comments of former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma to the protest against the Waqf Bill. Mofakkerul used to participate in protest rallies on various issues. He has been heard making provocative statements on various issues, mainly supporting the interests of a particular minority community.
Recently, he was seen speaking out for the exclusion of the names of voters from a particular community in the SIR. Provoking people to violence, road block and attack on government officials.
Standing at the Sujapur stand, Mofakkerul gave a long speech on the day of the incident, standing on a car bonnet. He was heard saying, “Who are you, DM, SP, DIB, CID, IB, come here, come here…. “There is only one thing: this movement is a movement to save our children. I came here, presented myself and left. Protests against the SIR are happening all over the state on the allegation that the names of several voters under trial in the SIR have been omitted. Protests started in different areas of Malda district since the morning on Wednesday.
On that day, seven judges associated with the work of SIR were detained at the Kaliachak-2 block office from 4 pm to around 12 midnight. The Supreme Court, deeply angered by this incident, has ordered adequate security to be provided to the judges. Several administrative officials have been booked. The Election Commission has given the investigation of this incident to the NIA. Moffakerul Islam was produced before the Malda District Court on Friday.

Moffakerul Islam has been arrested at Bagdogra Airport on Friday morning for instigating the Wednesday night incident. After the arrest of Mofakkerul, ADG K Jayaraman said, “We believe that this person is one of the conspirators in the various violence incidents in Malda. He is a lawyer. He lives in Itahar. He has incited people, it has been seen in several videos. We were tracking him. The CID arrested him from Bagdogra airport with the help of Siliguri police.
